Man oh man is Brownie a great dog! He is one of the happiest, most joyful dogs we have ever rescued. Every time he ambles down the street, you can see people smiling at him and folks always stop to pet him -- which he never refuses. He absolutely loves people. He's a playful little guy and he's about 2 years old. Brownie also digs going on long hikes and smelling the smells of the country, Brownie is a true lap dog who's favorite activity is sitting next to you while watching TV or cuddling up as you go to sleep. Oh, and did I mention he just loves belly rubs. He's a thoughtful, curious and charming fella and will make a loyal and loving companion to the right home. Brownie is neutered and up-to-date on all his shots.

This little gremlin is Rodney -- one of the sweetest kittens you will ever meet. He's just about 6 weeks old and more cuddly, friendly and adorable kittens you will not see. Rodney is an active little guy so it was tough to get really good pictures but we are working on it. He loves playing with his pal Tallulah, a Russian Blue kitten and it's so sweet because he defers to her when it comes to the cat dancer toy. He lets her have at it and when she takes a break, he jumps in. He likes chasing her around, too and makes a great companion to another cat. Her also liked to be snuggled by his foster mom. He is just the best! Because he's so social, he needs to go with Tallulah or to a home with another pet.

These pictures don't do our gorgeous little Tallulah justice. This little 8 week old is constantly in motion so it's tough to get a good shot. She loves playing with just about anything and if you engage her with a cat dancer, the two of you will have hours of fun. When she's not being impishly adorable and amusing herself, she's either wrestling with her best buddy Rodney or sitting in your lap. This little one has it all: brains, beauty and personality. She needs to go with her pal or to a home that has a resident pet.

Meet Lily, a darling 3 year old Tuxedo cat. Her favorite activities include flopping down next to you on the couch and falling asleep on her back with her adorable pink paws in the air. Her long-haired coat gives her an elegant look and makes her extra soft and cuddly. She's super affectionate and curious and likes to follow you around seemingly asking "What's going on?" with soft kitten-like meows.This little beauty is intelligent and loving and thrives on giving and receiving love. She would probably be best as a solo kitty. All she needs now is to find a permanent home.

Poor little Clinton was found in an abandoned apartment in Queens. But that didn't get this little 8 year old down at all. His sunny disposition and overall glee make him one of the most endearing dogs you will ever meet. He does well with cats and dogs and loves to be held and cuddled by people. Clinton is a playful and active little fella and has a januty little gait as he walk down the street where he gets smiles from everyone who sees him. How can you resist?

Georgia is a one-year old, breath-taking Dilute Tortie -- and a living doll to boot. The snuggle monster just loves to give and get affection. She's got a great temperament too -- she does amazing at our adoption events which can be pretty stressful. Georgia tolerates other cats but probably does best as a solo kitty. If you are looking to become a one-cat home, you couldn't make a better choice than Georgia.

Meet Connor! He's the cutest most affectionate little guy you could ever imagine. He just loves sitting at your side while you watch TV and man, does he love to snuggle while you sleep. His foster daddy woke up one morning to Connor licking his feet. Basically, this little two year old just adores getting and giving love. He lives for it and bonds quickly with people.

Connor will never say no to a walk either. He gets so excited to go out and see the sights and smell the smells. He's also really good with other dogs and cats. Connor was rescued from the shelter after being found as a stray. Like most small dogs, that experience makes him a little cautious at first. We are looking for a very experienced and patient home that's willing to work this sweet little guy. He's a work in progress but one that's soooo worth it.

Meet Chester, our angelic little 8-year-old Min Pin. He is one special dog, let me tell you. He has an incredible serenity and soulfulness about him. He is gentle and kind and has an almost equine quality about him and he delicately walks around the house, trot down the street or hop up stairs.

Chester likes to be near you but never never gets in your face about it. Rather he's content to lay next to you on the couch or in bed. But, we won't say no to kisses, belly rubs and hugs. He is a perfect city/apartment dog who demands so little and gives so much back.

Oh my God is Chi Chi the sweetest little thing ever! This little bundle of joy greets you at the door, dancing and tail wagging. When you do a little play bow she does the same, then comes running over to lavish you with kisses. And watching her make her little bed is absolutely hilarious as she fusses over bunching up the pillow.

Chi Chi is a 7-year-old love bug who likes to sit next to you on the couch and just chill out. She's good with other cats and dogs, and unlike a lot of chihuahuas does not have an aggressive nippy bone in her adorable body. She is just an angel!

This teeny cutie won our hearts immediately upon seeing her at the shelter. With her spritely little walk and inviting smile, Julip an adorable Yorkie, is a real charmer. She enjoyed her cab ride to her foster home standing up on her hind legs much of the time looking out the window. Upon arriving at her foster home, she checked the joint out then hopped up on the couch and snuggled right next to him. She is an utter sweetheart.

Horatio and his brother Alger we rescued with their mom when they were only one week old but my have they grown. Just about 6 weeks as of 7/26, these two kittens are super playful, and a joy to watch. They hop around like little bunnies chasing each other and doing routine sneak attacks. They have also just discovered the joys of string and have hours of amusement with that. They're climbers, too. One of their favorite activities is scaling their sherpa bag carrier and tumbling into it. But the climb right out, jump down and do it all over again. Forget TV, these guys will entertain you endlessly. They need to go as pair or to a home with a resident pet.

This is Lucas, an 8-week-old playful little kitten. Lucas has a big, adorable personality and he makes a great playmate for your cat or dog. He's always begging his foster brother for a wrestling match, a game of chase or even just gently swatting a wagging tail. It's quite hilarious actually. He's an unflappable little bloke, too. He does great at our adoption events where it's often noisy with a lot of people coming up to say hello. But that's how Lucas likes it. He greets everyone as if to say, "Please take me home!" This guy is a star, no question about it!

Rudy and Ramona are one highly adoptable pair of love bugs! Theyre 8-week-old non-siblings who met at our adoption event when they were placed in a cage together and they had so much fun, we couldnt bear to separate them at the end of the day. They are being fostered together until they find their forever home. Both love to snuggle up Rudy is a lap cat, while Ramona likes to snuggle on your shoulder. Rudy is fearless, while Ramona is sometimes shy (though Rudy always makes her forget this).

They can amuse themselves for hours, playing with toys and each other but they also love humans and often ask for a rub under the chin or a scratch of the belly. They also get along with other cats and are right now trying to win over the three cats with whom they are sharing an apartment. Rudy and Ramona have bonded so well we hate to split them up and are looking for a home

Sweet Sweet Wilbur was found wandering the streets of Astoria -- which must have been particularly challenging for him as he is blind. But that doesn't get him down at all. This pudgy little pug loves belly rubs and enjoys cuddling. And man is he huggable! He comes enthusiastically when called and figures things out very quickly. He's a smart one that's for sure. He loves going on car rides -- boat rides too as you can see from the pic above! We think Wilbur is about 10 years old and is a low maintenance pooch. He's good with cats and other dogs and just adores people. He is an angel. All he needs now is his forever home.

Well it may be the dog days of summer, especially during this heat wave in most of the country and NYC but it also is the height of kitten season. They literally are coming out of the walls. Dozens of kittens are handed into the city shelter and most of them being put down because there are not enough adopters. We are part of a mission to make NYC a no kill by 2015. I sometimes wonder....yes the numbers are down but many people still refuse to spay or neuter. We here at Ready for Rescue try to save as many as we can. It's easy math, the more foster homes, the more cats and dogs we can save. If you can't foster, there are other ways to help; donations, volunteering, spread the word to adopt. This week we rescued 4 little lives, we were the only group that called in for them. If we didn't call they would have been out down.

These guys are all orphans and now just waiting for their furever home.

London was found as a stray in the Bronx. A good samaritan took him in for the night and fell in love. Sadly her building does not allow dogs so now he is one of our foster homes and we are so glad we are getting to help this wonderful dog.

His disposition is simply incredible. Everyone that meets him loves him.Within 5 minutes he charmed the entire staff at our vets. He's not shy with kisses and just greeting people on the street and visitors at home. He learned his basic commands in no time and takes treats incredibly gently.

By all accounts he's great with dogs and cats and is just an all around mush. London is about 1 year old, house-broken, and you really couldn't ask for a sweeter dog.

Louis needs you

Louis is such a young cat that got a raw deal. Left at the city shelter with a fractured femoral head, his hip basically. Ready for Rescue rescued him, he has huge personality and he should not have been put to sleep because of this injury. Many people are irresponsible, the rest of us have to make up for it.

Louis' surgery cost $2,000, thank you to our major donors who have helped us pay most of it. We still have 800 to go. Your dollar helps. With your donation we can continue to put out the unfortunate animals.

Louis is a 1 1/2 year old marmalade tabby who was brought to the ACC with a fractured femoral head. We have started a chipin due to the high cost of surgery. Louis is a special cat, despite being in pain he was still looking for head pets. Louis' complete his surgery on June 21st. The surgery went well and he went straight into a foster home. Fortunately his recovery requires that he move around and not have cage rest. Your donation will help us pay for Louis' surgery.

In the past 7 days we have rescued 8 kittens, 4 of them still with their mom.

It all started with a cute little Russian Blue named Sherlene. Orphaned on the euth list. Russian Blues are quite popular because they have such nice personalities and are good family cats. We took her, but we did need to rename her. Now she is Olive Zoey Friskie.

That same night we learned there were 3 moms on the lists so we chose a little family.

This is Jamie and her 4 babies are below. Ready for adoption in 7 weeks.
Our next guy is Earl. He was on the euth list, those little black kittens all by themselves. He is about 9 weeks old and boy is he a pudgy boy! Fat and furry, so cute and healthy!

So we go to pick up Earl at the Brooklyn Shelter, and god this was an awful trip. 2 hours one way and 2 hours the other way, constant stopped traffic.
The actual pick up was only about 20 minutes. While we were there we got the ultimate question that we hate; "this little 3 week old came in, if you guys can't take her we will have to euthanise." This is because a 3 week old needs to be fed every few hours and the shelter does not have over night staff. Well of course you know the answer. She is a total squeaker and fighter. Her name is Carla and she is quite skinny and underweight but we are working on that. She has lots of spirit!

While we were waiting for little Carla's paperwork one of us decided to take a stroll and see if there were any other orphans by themselves in a cage. This sight just saddens me. We found only one, fortunately.
Meet Rosalita. Originally Rosalina but with the passing of Clarence Clemons we renamed her Rosalita.

These are just a tiny percentage of kittens and cats dying every day. Choose to adopt. Encourage your friends to adopt. Lots of wonderful animals dying simply because someone didn't spay neuter and it is kitten season.

India is a stunning, 1.5 year old momma cat. She was rescued with a her babies Malibu and Sierra from the city shelter. India is a friendly cat who likes to mash her little head against your hands while you are petting her. She has a very calm and dignified demeanor and has been a great mom to her kittens.She is currently staying at our vets and everyone there loves her.

These little 7 week olds were rescued from the shelter with her mom (India) Right now the family is staying with out vet and everyone loves them. Malibu is already quite the explorer and is ready to greet the world. Sierra likes to let her sister make the first move and then she follows right along. They are quite a pair and would ideally go together. Of course, if someone wanted the whole family, we wouldn't say no :)

Cola!

There are simply not enough words to describe how awesome Cola is. She was found literally running in the street. When we went to get her, we were greeted with kisses and hugs. We took her for a walk and she was great on the leash and friendly with every dog we met. Upon arriving in her foster home, we gave her a toy and she settled right in calmly gnawing away looking up only to give us a smile.

Cola is about 1- 1.5 years old, knows sit, down and stay. She's house broken and takes treats very gently. We could not have stumbled upon and better dog and we feel privileged to have found her.

Nina is one of the most darling cats you will ever meet. This recent mom (her kittens were adopted) is super affectionate with her foster mommy and shows incredibly well at our adoption events. She welcomes everyone who wants to come and say hi. Her temperament is truly amazing. She is beautiful, well-adjusted and friendly. In short she really is the perfect cat. J is 9 - 10 yrs old. He was found during the first big snow storm in December out by the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn in terrible condition. His nails were so long they had curled into the flesh of his paws and his fur was matted and stained and he could barely walk. Now is has bounced back to life and is the sweetest, friendliest boy you could ever meet. he gets along with all other dogs, cats and children. He is housebroken and loves to go for his twice daily walks. The first half of his life was sad but the next half will make up for it.

This sweet sweet boy is Hiro. A unique mix of Pit Bull and Pharaoh Hound, he just loves people (kids included) and he will never say no to a car ride. He's just about a year and a half old and is playful and active. And has you can from the photos, he loves getting hugs. He does well at the dog run is just an overall great dog. Come and meet him!

This sweet, adorable cat named Foxy was abandoned at the New York City kill shelter at the age of 8 and weighing only 3.5 lbs. We saved her literally on the day they were going to put her to sleep. Her grossly underweight condition was due to a hyperthyroid which had gone neglected for years. After providing her with a new iodine treatment, her hyperthyroid is now cured.

But poor little Foxy also has Irritable Bowel Syndrome which requires a little more daily care than the average cat. She needs some oral meds every other day and some fluids and depending on how she is feeling she gets a little slippery elm. But this little girl is so worth it. She is an affectionate cuddle puss who loves to sit in your lap and mash her adorable face into your hands for some loving.

Foxy is a gem who has been through so much and now deserves the perfect loving home. We are looking for an experienced foster or forever home for this precious little angel. We can help subsidize the medications if need be

Who likes to give hugs and kisses? Jack does! This incredibly sweet one year old was found tied up to a fence in Washington Heights. But that didn't stop him from smothering us with affection when we untied him. We brought him home and found out he gets along great with his foster brothers and sisters. He's smart, too. He learned sit in no time. This beautiful pit/mastiff mix loves playing with toys, enjoys walks and is just an all around great dog. Now he just needs a forever home. Could it be yours?

There used to be a band called The Shelia Divine and that is a perfect way to describe this little one-year-old lady. She is currently being boarded at our vet's and she is the talk of the office. They all love her super-friendly disposition. She is affectionate, pretty and playful. What more could you want? We love her and we're sure you will too.

This darling one year old is Charlotte. When it comes to loving, she gives as good as she gets (which is a lot because she's so adorable!) She can amuse herself for hours with just a piece of string or a fake mouse but a good cuddle is tops on her list. Her body is delightfully muppet-like and malleable which makes you just want to hug her to bits. Even when Charlotte lounges, it's a thing of beauty. She's languid and it's almost as if she just wants you to take a picture of her. She's true star and will make whoever adopts her truly happy.

Sweet Sweet Clara is a 10-month-old dream boat. This little lass was found on the street in Washington Heights. Actually, let me rephrase that. She found us in Washington Heights by essentially following her foster mommy and daddy home one day. Clara is a little cuddle monster who had a calm demeanor. She does great tolerating her rambunctious foster brothers and sisters and does great at our adoption events where she sits un-phased in her crate. She would do great in a single or multiple cat home. She is just perfect!

Sweet Winnie was rescued from a building fire in the Bronx. But despite that harrowing experience Winnie is one of the most joyful dogs you will ever meet. Her whole body shakes and her tail wags furiously when she meets people. She loves to get up and put her paws around you for a hug and smothers you with kisses. She's also a little cuddle monster. She loves to curl up on the couch with you.

Winnie also made fast friends with her foster sister, Sophie ( a pit mix) and her brother, Toby (a Daschund). They play, snooze, snuggle and hang out all day with each other. We think she would do well with other dogs. Winnie is one and a half and would make a great companion for a family who is active. Simply put, she's a gem.

Oh. My. God. Polly is the sweetest kitten ever. This 4-month old fluffy stunner fit in immediately in her foster home that has 4 other cats and a dog. Posey is a super sweet silver tabby, about a year old, who loves getting her back scratched and looking up at you with her pretty green eyes. Posey had been attacked and was found hiding in Central Park with some war wounds -- we called her Posey after Parker Posey, since she was found in the park. She loves to jump to high places, and hangs out on the couch, just waiting for you to walk by and scratch her for a while. She would probably be best in a one-cat household.
